Latino Psychological Association of New Jersey

Tenth Annual Conference

Friday, October 9, 2009
Montclair State University
Conference Center
Montclair, NJ

Founded in 1999, the Latino Psychological Association of New Jersey (LPANJ) seeks to serve as an advocacy group with regard to the education of psychologists and other mental health professionals in the advancement of psychological research, training, and treatments relevant to Latinos in the State of New Jersey.

In support of our mission, the annual LPANJ conference will highlight issues and techniques relevant to Latino psychology. Clinicians, researchers and students will benefit from presentations designed to broaden their knowledge and enhance their skills in providing services to and conducting research on this traditionally under-served segment of the community.

Topics should focus on issues relevant to Latino psychology, such as multicultural and cross-cultural research, training, and techniques, as well as other psychological themes pertinent to Latinos (e.g., gender, class, identity, etc.).

Abstracts can be submitted for Symposia, Paper Presentations, Poster Presentations, and Roundtable Discussions.

Symposia – are sessions in which a group of presenters share their views about a common topic.  The format will consist of an introduction to the topic by the program chair that provides a background for the discussion.  The presenters will then outline their viewpoints.  This is followed by an interchange amongst the presenters and between the presenters and the audience.  The symposia will end with an overview of the proceedings by the chairperson or a discussant.  Each symposium will be 90 minutes in length.

Paper Presentations – are oral presentations focused on a particular topic.  Papers will be allotted 30-35 minutes for the presentation and 10-15 minutes for a question and answer period, for a total of 45 minutes per paper.

Roundtable Discussions – provide an opportunity for informal discussion and exchange of ideas between the audience and the presenters on a particular topic.  Roundtable discussions will be 45 minutes in length.

Poster Presentations – allow presenters to display research findings, new ideas, and advances in their field in illustrated format on a poster board.  The session will provide an opportunity for authors to interact with attendees and discuss the information in detail.  Poster presentations are especially encouraged for students beginning to develop their research.  The poster session is tentatively scheduled to be held during the registration hour and the lunch hour.

For all presentation venues, an abstract of no more than 250 words should be submitted electronically by *August 28, 2009*

Please note that presenters are expected to register for the conference and pay the associated fees. For conference information or questions about submitting a proposal, please visit: www.lpanj.org or contact: Lorna Myers, President-Elect at presidentelect@lpanj.org
