Welcome Letter from the President of the Latino Psychological Association of New Jersey
Dear LPANJ Members,
I would like to thank all of our members and the board for granting me the opportunity to help guide this wonderful organization into continued growth and leadership. This year will continue to be a productive year for LPANJ in which we plan on increasing our membership through the provision of interesting workshops, trainings, our annual conference and increased professional collaborations. Through our collaboration with the New Jersey Psychological Association, LPANJ members were offered the opportunity to attend conferences at reduced member rates. As a member of the National Latino Psychological Association, I also hope to strengthen our relationship with other professionals interested in Latino issues.
We are thankful to our colleagues for their contributions. We would like to thank Daniel Weiss, Esq., for his presentation on psychological evaluations and immigration law. As always, we would like to thank Dr. Swerdlow’s generosity in continuing his tradition of donating space at Hoboken University Community Mental Health Center so that many of these workshops can take place. We are also grateful for past conference co-sponsorships by the Latin American and Latino Studies Program at Montclair State University, the Northeast Regional Epilepsy Group and the Multicultural Family Institute.
As many of you already know, you can now find us on Facebook. This increases our ability to network professionally, disseminate news and conduct outreach. Please become a fan or a friend and let us know any topics that you may be interested in obtaining more training on. As the year progresses, I encourage you all to spread the word about LPANJ and its mission. We would also love to highlight our members’ extensive expertise. Therefore, please submit articles for the newsletter, presentations for workshops and any other useful resource that other members may find beneficial. If you have the extra time, please feel free to join a committee or consider running for a position on the board.
Take advantage of our workshop trainings and our annual conference. We are planning a workshop on stress management for mental health professionals, juvenile offenders, and much more.
Thank you all again! I hope to see you at future events!
Warm regards,
Aileen Torres, Ph.D.
