President: Dr. Lysandra Perez-Strumolo

Dr. Perez is an Assistant Professor of Psychology at Ramapo College of New Jersey, where she teaches courses in the areas of Child Psychology and Research Methods.  She earned her doctorate in Clinical Psychology at Fairleigh Dickinson University.  As a member of LPANJ, Dr. Perez has served as Chair of the Program Committee for the LPANJ 2004 and 2005 Annual Conferences, as Co-Chair of the 2005 LPANJ Conference Committee, and as a member of the Membership Committee.  Dr. Perez’s interests are in the areas of Latino Psychology and the investigation of psychological responses to trauma. 

 

Past President: Dr. Jonathan Pastor

Dr. Jonathan Pastor is a licensed staff psychologist at the Washington Heights Community Service of the New York State Psychiatric Institute. He received his Psy.D in clinical psychology from the Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology at Rutgers University. He was Member-at-Large of the Latino Psychological Association of New Jersey prior to becoming President this year, and he has and continues to serve as the Newsletter Editor for the past two years. Dr. Pastor specializes in work with serious and severe mental illness, particularly among Latinos. He supervises psychology interns and externs at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center, and serves as a consultant to the Lucy Wicks HIV Clinic at Columbia Presbyterian.  He also has a small private practice in Midtown Manhattan.

President-elect: Dr. Sueli Petry

Dr. Petry is on the faculty of The Multicultural Family Institute in Highland Park, NJ and a staff psychologist at the University of Medicine  & Dentistry of New  Jersey, Newark Campus.  She received her Ph.D. in family  therapy at Seton  Hall University.  Dr. Petry serves as Co-Chair of the 2006  LPANJ Conference Committee and member of the Publications Committee.  Her research and practice interests are  in multiculturalism, social justice, privilege and oppression, and the special  clinical issues for Latinos in the United States.

 

Secretary: Ms. Jackie Flores

Ms. Jacqueline Flores is the Program Administrator at Supreme Consultants in Lyndhurst, NJ.  Her clinical experience ranges from children to senior citizens. Ms. Flores received her Bachelor's Degree from Rutgers University and her Master's Degree from Kean University.  She has served as Secretary for LPANJ since 2002.

Treasurer: Ms. Sonia Wadhwani

Ms. Sonia Wadhwani is currently a clinician at St. Mary Hospital. She received her M.A. in general-theoretical psychology at Farleigh Dickinson University. Her clinical experience includes working with at risk families who are involved with the child protective bureau. Ms. Wadhwani is a member of the Latino Psychological Association of New Jersey (LPANJ) and was a member of the association’s annual conference committee in November 2002.

Member at Large: Daniel Cruz

Daniel is a graduate student at Seton Hall University's Counseling Psychology Doctoral program, specializing in Clinical Neuropsychology. He received his master's degree in Biopsychology and Neuroscience from Rutgers University ? Newark. As member-at-large, Daniel is concerned with the representation of ethnic minorities in the fields of science and higher education as well as cultural issues in psychological testing. Daniel will be taking active roles in the Student Program Committee and the Mentoring Committee in addition to other responsibilities in keeping with LPANJ initiatives.
Additional research and clinical interests are in the areas of sustained psychological trauma, learning disabilities, emotion and adaptive behavior and recovery of function after sustained injury.
